The Meaning of Samadhi
The Meaning of Samadhi. 'Samprajnata samadhi is accompanied by reasoning, reflection, bliss and pure being. In asamprajnata samadhi, all mental activity ceases.' The meaning of samadhi: two types—samprajnata (with seed, with cognition) and asamprajnata (without seed, without cognition). Patanjali is the greatest scientist of the inner—precise, logical, exact.
Attraction to the Difficult
Attraction to the Difficult. 'Patanjali makes even the first step seem impossible compared to Heraclitus and Zen.' If Tao is not laughed at, it's not Tao. Attraction to the difficult: Patanjali is not more difficult—he's more precise. You misunderstand because you're not ready. The first step seems impossible because the ego resists.
Total Effort or Surrender
Total Effort or Surrender. 'Success is nearest to those whose efforts are intense. Success is also attained by surrender to God.' Total effort or surrender: two paths—intense effort or total surrender. Both reach the same. God is the supreme ruler—untouched by afflictions. In God, the seed is developed to its highest.
Find the Ever-Present Flower
Find the Ever-Present Flower. 'How can a seed flower without the gap in between?' The seed is already flowering—you are already that which you can become. Find the ever-present flower: no gap is needed because the flower is already in the seed. Time is the illusion. The present moment contains eternity.
The Master of Masters
The Master of Masters. 'Being beyond time, He is the master of masters. He is known as Aum.' The master of masters: God is not the creator but the ultimate flowering of consciousness. Aum is His name—the primal sound. Repeat and meditate on Aum—obstacles disappear, a new consciousness awakens.
The Beginning of a New Path
The Beginning of a New Path. 'Do you receive instructions from any master of masters?' I am not on any ancient path. The beginning of a new path: Osho is not a continuation—he's a new beginning. Not like Mahavira who was the 24th in a series. The master creates a new path for new times, new people.
The Obstacles to Meditation
The Obstacles to Meditation. 'Disease, languor, doubt, carelessness, laziness, sensuality, delusion, impotency, instability—these distract the mind.' The obstacles: nine obstacles and four symptoms. To remove them, meditate on one principle. Sound is the basic element of existence—meditate on sound (Aum) to dissolve obstacles.
From Chaos to Chaos with Aum
From Chaos to Chaos with Aum. 'Why is everything around you in such chaos?' Because I am a chaos. From chaos to chaos with Aum: only out of chaos is a cosmos born. You are old buildings—you must be demolished first. The chaos is the demolition—don't fear it. Aum is the thread through the chaos.
Cultivating Right Attitudes
Cultivating Right Attitudes. 'Friendliness towards the happy, compassion towards the miserable, joy towards the virtuous, indifference towards the evil.' Cultivating right attitudes: four attitudes that tranquilize the mind. The mind also becomes tranquil through breath regulation. Meditate on the inner light—serene, beyond sorrow.
The Alpha is the Omega
The Alpha is the Omega. 'Do positive thoughts bring enlightenment?' No—enlightenment is beyond duality, beyond positive and negative. The alpha is the omega: the beginning and the end are one. Positive thoughts can bring many things but not enlightenment. Enlightenment happens when both positive and negative are dropped. The alpha (beginning) is the omega (end)—you're already there.
